Quick Checklist

1

Check Your Microphone Hardware

Make sure a microphone is connected and working

Built-in Microphone

Most laptops have a built-in microphone. Desktop computers usually require an external microphone or headset.

External Microphone or Headset

If using an external device, make sure it's:

  • Properly plugged into the correct port (pink/red for microphone)
  • USB devices are fully connected and recognized
  • Bluetooth headsets are paired and connected
  • Device is turned on (if it has a power button)

Quick Test on Windows:

  1. Right-click the speaker icon in taskbar
  2. Select "Sound settings"
  3. Scroll to "Input" section
  4. Speak into your microphone and watch the volume bar move
2

Enable Microphone in Chrome Browser

Grant microphone permission to the website

Why Chrome Needs Permission

For your privacy and security, Chrome requires explicit permission before any website can access your microphone.

Method 1: Using Address Bar Icon

1

Look for the microphone icon in the address bar

When you try to make a call, Chrome will show a microphone icon (🎤) or camera icon at the left side of the address bar

Chrome Address Bar
2

Click on the microphone icon

A dropdown menu will appear with permission options

3

Select "Always allow" and click "Done"

This will save the permission so you don't need to grant it every time

Method 2: Using Chrome Settings

1

Click the three dots menu (⋮) in top-right corner

This opens Chrome's main menu

2

Select "Settings"

Opens Chrome settings page in a new tab

3

Click "Privacy and security" in left sidebar

Then click "Site Settings"

4

Scroll down and click "Microphone"

Under "Permissions" section

Site Permissions
5

Make sure "Sites can ask to use your microphone" is enabled

Toggle should be blue/on

6

Find our website in the list

Look under "Allowed to use your microphone" section

If it's under "Not allowed", click the trash icon to remove it, then refresh the page to grant permission again

3

Select the Correct Microphone Device

Choose which microphone Chrome should use

Multiple Microphones?

If you have multiple audio devices (built-in mic, USB headset, Bluetooth), you need to select the correct one.

How to Select Microphone:

1
Go back to Settings → Privacy and security → Site Settings → Microphone
2
At the top, you'll see a dropdown menu showing your current microphone
3
Click the dropdown and select the microphone you want to use

Pro Tip

Try speaking into your microphone while the list is open - Chrome shows a volume indicator to help you identify which device is active.

4

Test Your Microphone

Verify everything is working correctly

1
Refresh the page or return to the calling interface
2
Click the call button to initiate a call
3
Speak into your microphone - you should see audio level indicators moving

Success! 🎉

If you can see the audio levels responding to your voice, your microphone is working correctly!
